Mirror Closet Doors

When you move into a home that has tiny bedrooms, you may experience a feeling of claustrophobia. Or, if you’ve been living in a room whose small stature is making you feel closed in, you may need a change.

Mirror closet doors can be your saving grace in both of these situations. Adding an expanse of mirrors, like on a closet door system, can literally double the feeling of a room’s size.

You will be positively amazed at the difference. In addition to making the space itself feel larger, it makes it much brighter, because any light in the room is reflected as well, eliminating any feelings of gloom.

For the fashionista, such a bank of mirrors also provides an excellent dressing room feel.

Mirror closet doors come in both sliding and bifold varieties. Both have their advantages and disadvantages, although both types are easy to install.

Sliding closet doors’ greatest advantage is the fact that they don’t take up much room when they’re opened. In a small space, this can be a big plus.

However, with sliding doors in your closet, you can’t see your entire closet at once. One side will always be covered up by the doors.

This may be alleviated if your closet is large enough to accommodate triple sliding doors, because less of the closet will be covered when you open up two of the sliding panels.

Bi-fold doors have the advantage of opening up completely, allowing you to see the entire space at one glance. They do extend somewhat into to the room, however, which may be a squeeze in tight spaces.

Both sliding and bifold mirror closet doors install with a track that runs along the top of the closet door frame. This track is screwed in, and the doors are hooked onto it with small wheels or rollers.

Bifold doors also have hardware installed on the floor to keep them from swinging out of place. Installing either kind of door is an easy afternoon project for an experienced do-it-yourselfer.

If you need help, however, someone at your home improvement center can guide you through it step by step.
